Stability Clause

Pre-Existing Condition Coverage

Pre-existing condition coverage is only available on the Enhanced plan. The Standard plan does not cover pre-existing conditions under any circumstances. On the Enhanced plan, the required stability period depends on the applicant's age — younger applicants benefit from a shorter 90-day window.

Under Age 70 90 days stability

Pre-existing conditions must be stable for 90 consecutive days before the policy effective date for applicants under age 70.

Ages 70 – 84 180 days stability

For applicants aged 70 to 84, conditions must be stable for 180 consecutive days before the policy effective date, and all medical declaration questions must be answered no (Enhanced plan only).

What counts as "stable"

  • No new or worsening symptoms
  • No new diagnosis or change in existing diagnosis
  • No new prescriptions or change in medication dosage
  • No hospitalization or referral to a specialist
  • No tests ordered or results outstanding

Important Note

Conditions not meeting the stability requirement are excluded. A licensed advisor can help confirm eligibility before you purchase.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Applicants must be at least 15 days old and under 90 years of age as of the policy effective date.
Pre-existing condition coverage is only available if you select the Enhanced plan — the Standard plan does not cover pre-existing conditions at all. On the Enhanced plan, applicants under age 70 must have stable conditions for 90 days before the policy start date. Applicants aged 70 to 84 require 180 days of stability and must answer no to all questions on the medical declaration. A condition is stable when there is no hospitalization, no new diagnosis, treatment, or medication, no change in treatment or medication, no new or worsening symptoms, no new test results showing deterioration, and no referral to a specialist within the applicable period.
Secure Travel offers Standard and Enhanced plans. Standard covers core emergency medical benefits with no pre-existing condition coverage. Enhanced adds higher limits for prescriptions, dental, repatriation, and paramedical services, covers stable pre-existing conditions, and adds exclusive benefits like transportation to bedside, meals & accommodation, hospital daily allowance, return & escort of children, and excess baggage return.
Yes. Secure Travel provides a 100% refund of the premium paid if the visa is not granted, provided no claims have been made. Submit proof of refusal to receive your full refund.
Yes. The policy effective date can be changed as many times as needed while your parents or grandparents are waiting for their visa to be issued — a particularly useful feature given unpredictable visa processing times.
If the insured returns home before the policy period ends, Secure Travel provides a pro-rata refund of the unused premium, provided no claims have been submitted.
Yes. Secure Travel offers a monthly premium payment option for Super Visa Insurance policies, making a 12-month plan more affordable without requiring a large lump-sum payment.
There may be a waiting period depending on when you apply: If you apply within 30 days of arrival with no prior coverage, a 48-hour waiting period applies for illness (injuries are covered immediately). If you apply more than 30 days after arrival with no prior coverage, an 8-day waiting period applies for illness. No waiting period applies if you purchase before arrival or switch from another Canadian insurer with no gap in coverage.
