Stability Clause

Pre-Existing Condition Coverage

On the Standard plan, TuGo's stability requirement scales with age. A condition is stable when there's no change in medication type or dosage, no new symptoms, no hospitalizations or ER visits, and no outstanding test results, for the full period below before the policy effective date. Applicants 60 and over must also complete a medical questionnaire. The Basic plan does not cover pre-existing conditions under any circumstances, regardless of stability.

Age 59 & Under 90 days stability

Pre-existing conditions must be stable for 90 consecutive days before the policy effective date.

Ages 60 – 69 120 days stability

A medical questionnaire is required. Conditions must be stable for 120 consecutive days before the policy effective date.

Ages 70 – 85 180 days stability

A medical questionnaire is required. Conditions must be stable for 180 consecutive days before the policy effective date.

Age 86 & Over 365 days stability

A medical questionnaire is required. Conditions must be stable for 365 consecutive days before the policy effective date.

What counts as "stable"

  • No new or worsening symptoms
  • No new diagnosis or change in existing diagnosis
  • No new prescriptions or change in medication dosage
  • No hospitalization or referral to a specialist
  • No tests ordered or results outstanding

Important Note

Conditions not meeting the stability requirement are excluded. A licensed advisor can help confirm eligibility before you purchase.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

TuGo arranges direct billing with many hospitals and medical facilities across Canada, so bills can often be settled directly with the provider instead of paying out-of-pocket and claiming later. Some facilities may still require upfront payment depending on their own protocols — contact TuGo's assistance line as soon as possible after an emergency to arrange billing.
Only the Standard plan does. Its stability requirement depends on age: 90 days for applicants 59 and under, 120 days for ages 60–69, 180 days for ages 70–85, and 365 days for applicants 86 and older. Applicants 60 and over must also complete a medical questionnaire. The Basic plan excludes pre-existing conditions entirely, regardless of stability.
On the Standard plan, TuGo offers an optional Unstable Pre-existing Medical Conditions rider for applicants 79 and under, which can cover a condition that has been stable for as little as 7 days before travel — useful if a diagnosis or medication change happened recently. This rider is not available on the Basic plan.
For insureds 60 and over, if any question on the medical questionnaire is not answered truthfully and accurately, any claim related to that condition is subject to an extra deductible of $15,000 CAD, on top of any other applicable deductible. Accurate answers are essential.
Yes. If your Super Visa application is refused and no travel took place, TuGo will refund the premium less a $250 cancellation fee. A copy of the refusal documentation is required with your refund request.
The official TuGo policy wording states that the full premium is paid at the time of application, with no monthly installment plan described. Ask your broker directly if you need a payment plan, as this may be arranged outside the policy itself.
No waiting period applies if you purchase before arrival. If purchased within 60 days of arrival with no prior coverage, a 48-hour waiting period applies for illness. If purchased 61 or more days after arrival, the waiting period is 7 days. Coverage for accidental injuries starts immediately either way.
TuGo does not cover routine checkups, elective procedures, or conditions that were not stable within the required stability period. Coverage is designed for emergency medical situations only — always check the full policy wording for a complete list of exclusions.
