Stability Clause

Pre-Existing Condition Coverage

TruStone offers two ways to get coverage: a lower-cost plan without pre-existing condition coverage, or a plan that covers stable pre-existing conditions (a medical questionnaire is required). Under the standard plan, a condition must be unchanged and not deteriorating — no new symptoms, medication changes, or hospitalizations — for 90 days before the policy effective date. An optional plan using a 365-day stability window is also available.

Standard Plan 90 days stability

Pre-existing conditions must be stable for 90 consecutive days before the policy effective date. A medical questionnaire is required to add this coverage.

Extended Stability Plan (Optional) 365 days stability

An alternative plan that uses a 365-day stability window instead of the standard 90 days. Ask an advisor whether this option fits your parent or grandparent's medical history.

What counts as "stable"

  • No new or worsening symptoms
  • No new diagnosis or change in existing diagnosis
  • No new prescriptions or change in medication dosage
  • No hospitalization or referral to a specialist
  • No tests ordered or results outstanding

Important Note

Conditions not meeting the stability requirement are excluded. A licensed advisor can help confirm eligibility before you purchase.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, through their 'with pre-existing condition' plan, which requires a medical questionnaire. Conditions must be stable for 90 consecutive days before the policy start date under the standard plan, or you can choose the optional plan that uses a 365-day stability window instead. A lower-cost plan without pre-existing condition coverage is also available if it isn't needed.
TruStone Health Visitors to Canada plans are available at $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000, and $200,000. IRCC requires a minimum of $100,000 for Super Visa eligibility. Applicants must be at least 15 days old and under 90 years of age.
Yes. Under the monthly payment plan, the first two months of premium are billed upfront on the application date, followed by monthly installments. A $50 fee applies to set up the monthly plan, and a $25 fee applies if a monthly installment payment is declined.
Yes, but it isn't automatically 100%. If you cancel before your policy's effective date and provide a copy of the Super Visa denial letter, TruStone waives its short-rate cancellation penalty — though applicable service fees and administrative charges are still non-refundable. Without proof of denial provided in time, a $250 cancellation fee and the standard short-rate penalty apply instead. Separately, a 10-day free-look period gives you a full refund if you cancel before coverage begins and no claims have been filed, for any reason.
Yes. If the policy is purchased after you've already arrived in Canada with no prior coverage, a 5-day waiting period applies — and unlike many competitors, TruStone's waiting period applies to both sickness and injury, not just illness. This waiting period is waived if you already hold continuous coverage from another Canadian insurer.
TruStone's licensed insurance advisors are not paid a commission tied to the specific policy you choose. The idea is that their recommendations are based on your family's needs rather than which plan pays the advisor the most.
Contact TruStone's assistance provider, Trident Global Assistance, within 24 hours of a medical emergency. If you fail to make contact within 48 hours, your individual benefit maximums are reduced by 20%, and if you selected a coverage limit of $50,000 or more, your effective coverage limit is also capped at $25,000 for that claim — so it pays to call right away.
Routine checkups, elective procedures, and conditions that don't meet the stability requirement are excluded. Some pre-existing condition combinations carry extra restrictions or rate surcharges — for example, cardiovascular treatment may be excluded if diabetes is a declared pre-existing condition. Always review the full policy wording for a complete list of exclusions.
